Rube Goldberg Machine

Inspiration from Rube Goldberg:

• Design for Manufacturability course drew inspiration from Rube Goldberg.

• Tasked teams of 3-5 students to devise elaborate methods to activate a light with a marble.

• Provided Materials:

  • Wooden base, metal brackets, marble, and battery-powered light were provided for construction.

• Design Constraints:

  • Machines had to fit within 30 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm dimensions.

  • Required at least 10 mechanically distinct steps.

  • Mandated incorporation of both rotary and linear motion.

  • Utilization of rigid linkages, string, and elastic elements was necessary for design implementation.
